The primary purpose of these disclaimers is to clarify the place of copyright law on CarlWiki. If you have any legal questions or concerns, contact the webmaster.

For readers

On many wikis, such as Wikipedia, all material is available with few limits on use. This is not the case for CarlWiki. All material on this site is copyrighted by the various contributors, unless specifically stated otherwise. The reason for this is that this wiki is supposed to be used by a limited group: Those with some affiliation to Carleton College. It therefore has a tighter-knit community than other wikis. Some may choose, for example, to upload a picture of themselves. However, they would prefer to retain the copyright on that picture, rather than allow anyone to use it freely, as they would by uploading such a picture to Wikipedia.

If you’d like to report a possible privacy or copyright violation, go to CarlWiki:Privacy violations or CarlWiki:Copyright violations. If you see a blatant violation, please e-mail the webmaster.

For contributors

Unlike Caucus, StalkerNet, or Thefacebook, CarlWiki is 100% open to the public. For this reason, think twice before uploading anything that might raise privacy or copyright concerns. Do not upload files unless you own the copyright, or have a legitimate fair use claim, or they are in the public domain. If you aren’t sure whether something is acceptable, you can always contact the webmaster. Also, respect the privacy of others. While you may be fine with uploading that picture of you and your friend getting drunk, your friend might object. The same applies to text, audio, and any other contributions.

For more specific information, please read the privacy policy and copyright policy before contributing.
